Tai Chi Chuan is a Chinese martial art renowned for its health benefits. As a form of exercise, it is very gentle. This gentleness however, is one of the greatest strengths of Tai Chi Chuan, as it allows beginners to make slow steady progress, whilst avoiding the dangers of physical stress, strain and injury.
It encourages awareness of the whole body and the use of the whole body in movement. Every movement in Tai Chi is natural – in the sense that the body moves in the way which nature designed it to move.
In a world where an increasing number of people suffer from stress and stress-related diseases, the gentle rhythmic movements of Tai Chi Chuan, with it’s emphasis on total relaxation of both body and mind, provide a therapeutic safety valve.
“The art is to find balance in all things. There is no poison that cannot aid health in the right circumstances and no ‘virtuous substance’ that will not be poisonous in excess. Physical and psychological well-being requires moderation. Whether it is the health of the individual, nation or planet, if the balance is upset, misfortune will result”. Cheng Man Ching
